The South Dakota men's basketball team faces Omaha at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the Summit League Tournament quarterfinal inside the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Coyotes enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed while Omaha is the No. 7 seed.

The Fan Fest

The Game
The quarterfinal round contest will be the third meeting between Omaha and South Dakota. The Coyotes won the previous two meetings this year including a Senior Day 79-64 victory on Feb. 17 inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.

A clean sweep of the season would be the first time USD has won three-straight games against Omaha since winning four-straight from 2005-06 through 2007-08.

The Mavericks
Omaha is 9-21 on the season and finished the Summit League season with a 4-10 record. Zach Jackson, a second-team all-Summit League selection, averaged 17.4 points per game while grabbing 6.4 rebounds per contest. Mitch Hahn leads Omaha with 7.3 rebounds to go along with his 12.2 points per contest.

The Coyotes
South Dakota is 24-7 overall and is led by two-time first-team all-Summit League performer
Matt Mooney. The junior guard averages 18.2 points per game, a point total that increased to 19.8 points per contest in league action. The Coyotes also receive all-league contributions from
Tyler Hagedorn and
Trey Burch-Manning. Hagedorn has enjoyed a breakout junior season with 13.6 points per contest with Burch-Manning leading the team with 6.8 rebounds.

Triston Simpson, an honorable mention to the Summit League teams, averaged 10.4 points per game in Summit League action. For the season, he tallied 8.7 points to go along with his team-best 3.3 assists.

The Series
South Dakota leads the series 56-48. The two squads last met in a postseason meeting on March 13, 2004, in the NCAA Division II Regional. The Coyotes won that contest 82-71.

The Tournament
South Dakota State enters with the league's No. 1 seed and faces Western Illinois on Saturday at 6 p.m. On Sunday, No. 4 Fort Wayne faces No. 5 North Dakota State at 6 p.m. while No. 3 Denver faces No. 6 Oral Roberts at 8:30 p.m.

The winner between the Coyotes and Mavericks will move on to play the winner of Denver and Oral Roberts at 8:30 p.m. Monday.

No. 2 seeds have been crowned the Summit League Tournament Champion in three of the last six Summit League Tournaments.

One Last Thing
South Dakota captured its 19
th 20-win season this year and currently has 24 victories. That is three shy of the school record of 27 wins, set by the 2004-05 squad. Winning the Summit League Tournament would match that win total and give the Coyotes their first trip to the Division I NCAA Tournament.
