SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota swimming and diving team members
Sarah Schank and
Sabrina Sabadeanu were named Summit League athletes of the week the league announced on Tuesday.
Schank, a senior, posted a season-high in the one-meter event with a score of 270.35 to earn Summit League women's diver of the week honors for the eighth time in her career. The score is the second-best mark in the Summit League this season for the Cottage Grove, Minnesota, native who also scored 291.45 points during the three-meter competition.
Schank's one-meter total is a NCAA Zone Diving Qualifying mark and it's the fourth-best point total in USD school history.
Sabadeanu, a junior, is honored as the Summit League women's swimmer of the week for the third time this season and fifth time in her career. She enjoyed a strong meet that saw her post a pair of individual triumphs while also competing on two relays that earned victories, including one that set a new school and DakotaDome Pool record.
Sabadeanu, a Commerce City, Colorado, native swam to victory in the 200 back and 100 back. Meanwhile, she also swam relay legs in the 400 medley, and 200 free relays that all posted wins. She led off the 400 medley with a 1:04 split in the backstroke as the Coyotes went on to post a new school and DakotaDome Pool record in 4:23.78. That mark broke the old school record of 4:27.15 from 2011 and the old pool record of 4:24.85 held by Northern Iowa in 2015.
