SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota swimming and diving set four new school records, while also producing 28 new entries into the Coyote Top 10 list during the three-day Augustana Invitational that concluded Saturday evening inside Midco Aquatic Center.
Additionally, 12 times individuals moved up the Coyote Top 10 list and three lowered there already school record times that they owned. The South Dakota men topped the four-team field with 1,859.5 points while the women's team finished second in an eight-team field with 1,251 points.
South Dakota captured 10 individual races during the meet while the men's team swept all five relays, setting school records in the 200 and 400 free relays. The women's team won the 200 free relay.
Jake Leichner won a pair of races, lowering his school record time in the 200 IM to 1:49.66, while also taking first in the 200 breaststroke with a new personal best of 2:00.85. Leichner anchored the 400 free relay to victory in a new school record time of 2:59.15. The foursome, which included
Charlie Bean, Zach Kopp and
Cooper Fuchs became the first in school history to break the three-minute mark in the event.
Bean, a sophomore, and Zach Kopp, a freshman, were the two individuals who set new school records during the meet. Bean swam 44.44 in the 100 free while Kopp swam 20.09 in the 50 free, an event where the Coyotes went 1-2-3 and all three were under the previous school record of 20.28 by Zach Weiss in 1999.
Also touching the wall first for the Coyote men's team were
Brady Torborg, lowering his school record time in the 100 back (49.47), Bean in the 200 free (1:39.26),
Jacob Won in the 200 fly (1:52.18) and
Seth Jones in the 1650 free (16:15.46).
The final school record came from the men's 200 free relay of Zach Kopp, Bean, Torborg and Fuchs, swimming 1:21.06.
Individual victories for the women's team came from junior
Haley Pederson, who swept the diving events with 259.30 (1M) and 248.50 (3M) and senior
Sabrina Sabadeanu, who touched first in the 200 back (1:59.95).
The men's and women's teams combined for 34 top three performances individually in the meet.
This meet served as the final competition during the first semester for the Coyotes.
