SIOUX FALLS –
Sarah Schank's big smile told the whole story Friday at the Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships.
The South Dakota senior closed out her collegiate career, with a little redemption, in claiming her first Summit League title on the one-meter diving board. It capped a sweep of the diving events for the native of Cottage Grove, Minnesota.
"It feels good," Schank said. "It feels like all the hard work finally paid off, all four years of it."
Schank, similar to last year, was the preliminary leader in the one-meter competition with 274.85 points. This time around she closed the door with a new personal best of 285.1 in the finals, moving up one spot into third on the school's top 10 list, following her ninth individual victory of the season on one-meter.
"Just going into today I was just really confident that I could dive well, just focusing on myself," Schank said. "I set a goal for 260 in the prelims, and I went over that. Was not expecting 285 in the finals, could have gone a lot better but I am happy with it.
"Definitely like a redemption, I felt pretty good, wasn't even thinking about last year out there today. Just because I felt so confident that I could just do really good. I think it showed."
Haley Pederson, a sophomore, added her second all-conference honors of the week with a third-place finish in the one-meter diving event. She posted a season-best score of 244.7 in the finals.
Two more South Dakota individuals and a pair of relays claimed all-conference honors following top three finishes on day three at the Midco Aquatic Center.
