Fudenberg leads Coyotes in first round in Arizona

PALM VALLEY, Ariz. – Scott Fudenberg is tied for fifth place after 18 holes Saturday at the Loyola Intercollegiate taking place at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Palm Valley, Arizona.
 
Fudenberg, a junior, shot 2-under-par 70 in the first tour of the course. Competing as an individual in the event, he ranks 10th in the field with 13 pars and added four birdies.
 
As a team, the Coyotes are tied for 10th in the 17-team field with 299 strokes. Freshman Ben Hicks tops the Coyote scorers with a 1-over-par 73, which places him in a tie for 28th. Sophomore Jacob Michel is tied for 37th with 74 strokes while junior Matt Tolan is tied for 45th with 75 strokes.
 
Senior Tommy Vining and sophomore Tate Arends round out USD's scoring with 77 and 78 strokes, respectively. Vining is tied for 63rd and Arends tied for 70th.
 
In a field full of teams from across the United States, Elon leads with 282 strokes. Evan Brown of the host Greyhounds is the leader in the clubhouse with a 5-under-par 67.
 
Palm Valley Golf Club is playing 7,015 yards and to a par 72.
 
The three-day event continues Sunday with tee times beginning at 10 a.m. (CST). The final round is slated for Monday.
