Lara Boman and junior
Chris Nilsen are both moving on to the NCAA Championships after qualifying on Thursday at the NCAA West Preliminary inside Hornet Stadium.
Boman used a big final throw to move into qualifying position in the hammer throw. She sent the hammer throw 202 feet to move into the 10th qualifying position. Boman reaches the NCAA Championships in the hammer throw for the second-straight year.
Nilsen was one of eight men to clear 17-7 in the pole vault, while the remaining four qualifiers jumped 17-5 to advance. The defending NCAA Outdoor Champion in the vault with the meet record, Nilsen is a five-time All-American reaching his sixth-straight NCAA meet. Classmates
Ethan Bray and
Nick Johnson tied for 18th and 30th, respectively, in the pole vault competition.
Senior
Eldon Warner advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals in the 1,500-meter run. Warner clocked 3:45.06, improving his own USD school record. He posted the 10th-fastest time among the 24 qualifiers. He will need to finish in the top-12 on Saturday to reach the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.
Senior
Ethan Fenchel wrapped up his Coyote career at his second NCAA West Preliminary meet. Fenchel sent the hammer 194-3 for 33rd place.
