VERMILLION, S.D. –
Trey Burch-Manning will see his basketball career continue as he has signed his first professional contract to play for the Basketball Academy of Limburg in Limburg, Holland.
Â
The recent University of South Dakota graduate leaves for Limburg in the middle of August with training camp starting shortly after his arrival and games beginning in September.
Â
"It is a great opportunity," Burch-Manning said. "I am very excited. It is something that I have dreamt about since I was little, playing basketball as a career.
Â
"I'm taking the opportunity and it is pretty exciting to be able to experience a new culture, playing and being somewhere new."
Â
The native of Federal Way, Washington, saw a career year in points per game as a senior with 11.1 while grabbing 6.2 rebounds per contest. He also hit a career-best 43 percent of his 3-point field goal attempts in his senior season, a year where he sank 37 of his 49 career long-range shots.
Â
"We're excited for Trey," USD head coach
Todd Lee said. "He has worked hard to get to this point in his career and we know he will represent South Dakota well."
Â
For his career, he averaged 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. His 620 rebounds rank him 18
th all-time in USD history.
Â
Burch-Manning garnered his bachelor of science degree in sport marketing and media in May, and then went back home to workout while awaiting his professional opportunity.
Â
"I went home for a little over a month and have been working out with some close friends that now play overseas along with having some of my old AAU coaches working me out," Burch-Manning said. "I've just been trying to prepare and get my game ready for the next level."
Â
That next level is the Dutch Basketball League where he intends on helping a young club compete for a championship. The Basketball Academy of Limburg (BAL) was founded in 2013 and entered the Dutch Basketball League in 2017-18.
Â
"I am happy that Trey signed with BAL for the coming season," Burch-Manning's head coach Radenko Varagic said. "With Trey's capabilities, we have a good reinforcement both defensively and offensively. I look forward to seeing what he will bring us next season."
