VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota women's tennis coach
Brett Barnett is pleased to announce the addition of Agustina Diaz to the 2019-20 roster.
Diaz, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, was a two-time Junior College National Tournament qualifier while competing for Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton, Georgia.
Diaz posted a 4-1 mark at the NJCAA Division I national championships this spring, winning the consolation bracket with four consecutive wins after an opening round loss. In doubles play she teamed with Irene Romero and the duo won a pair of matches before falling in the quarterfinals.
She closed her sophomore year with a JUCO ranking of No. 18 in singles. She rose to as high as No. 3 in doubles as a freshman and No. 4 as a sophomore.
"I'm very excited that Agustina has decide to join our program at USD," said Barnett. "We are going to get an experienced player that has had a lot of success at the JUCO level.
"She knows what to expect with college tennis and is ready to compete at the Division 1 level. Diaz will bring more depth to our program and is someone who loves to compete and plays with a lot of energy and passion on the court. She is a solid all-court player that hits a very heavy ball that I cannot wait to start working with in August."
The No. 1 ranked junior player in Argentina in 2016 (U16) and 2017 (U18), Diaz will have two years of eligibility remaining at USD.
