SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota senior forward
Stanley Umude has been voted to the Summit League Preseason First Team for the second straight season as announced by the Summit League Monday. South Dakota is picked to finish fifth in the team race in a poll conducted by the league's head coaches, sports information directors and select media.
Umude was last season's Preseason Player of the Year, and is one of three players back on the preseason team again this season. He garnered second-team all-Summit League accolades a season ago after averaging 16.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. The San Antonio, Texas, native started all 32 games and averaged better than 17 points during conference play.
Umude recorded 27 double-digit scoring games while scoring 20 or more points on nine occasions and netting a season-high 28 against Western Illinois. He notched a team-high five double-doubles on the season. Umude enters the 2020-21 season 20 points shy of 1,000 for his career.
South Dakota, set to begin its third season under alum
Todd Lee, reached 20 wins in a season for the third time in four years. The Coyotes were 20-12 overall and 10-6 inside the Summit, good for third place in the standings. Umude is the lone returning starter for a team that features 11 new players.
