The Game
South Dakota hosts Lipscomb at 1 p.m. Sunday inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center in Vermillion. Attendance is limited to Coyote season ticket holders, but the game will be broadcast by MidcoSN. That broadcast will also be streamed on ESPN3 and South Dakota continues to offer its free stream on GoYotes.com. Fans can tune in to the Coyote Sports Network with Carter Woodiel on KVHT 106.3 FM in Yankton/Vermillion or by using the TuneIn app.
Prior to tip-off on Sunday, a ring ceremony will take on the court to recognize last year's Summit League regular season and tournament titles. Members of last year's senior class will be present to unveil the two latest championship banners added to the Coyotes' collection inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
The Coyotes
South Dakota enters Sunday's contest with two games under its belt. The Coyotes' losses to nationally-ranked South Carolina and Gonzaga were the first following a 19-game win streak to end last season. The Coyotes are 57-4 inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center and speaking of winning streaks, USD looks to extend its 12-game home winning streak. Preseason Summit League Player of the Year
Hannah Sjerven averaged a double-double against elite competition last week, but it was the play of senior guard
Liv Korngable that stood out. Korngable averaged four points in her role off the bench last year, but dropped a team-high 36 points on 54 percent shooting in two starts to begin this season. True freshmen
Maddie Krull (8.5 ppg) and
Kyah Watson (5.5 ppg) are USD's fourth- and fifth-leading scorers through week one.
The Bisons
Lipscomb opens its season in Vermillion under second-year head coach Lauren Sumski. She's the first female to lead the program in its Division I era and she finished 7-23 in year one, a three-game improvement over the prior season. The Bisons bring back their top-four performers from last season including all-ASUN honoree Taylor Clark, who has led the team in scoring in each of the last two seasons. Another Bison to watch is 6-foot-3 post Dorie Harrison, a Kentucky transfer who averaged 10 points and a team-best 6.3 boards last year at Lipscomb before sustaining a season-ending injury.
The Series
This marks the first meeting between South Dakota and Lipscomb.
One Last Thing
South Dakota owns a 41-8 all-time record in home openers. The Coyotes extended their home-opening win streak to seven a year ago after a thrilling 102-94 overtime win versus Drake.
