School 200 free relay mark goes down on day two

S&D: Summit Championships

SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota posted another school record time in a relay during day two of the Summit League swimming and diving championships presented by U.S. Air Forces Special Operations.

The Coyote foursome of Zachary Kopp, Cooper Fuchs, Charlie Bean and Jake Leichner swam 1:20.97 to break the school record in the 200 free relay on Thursday at the Midco Aquatic Center.

South Dakota had two individuals earn all-conference honors and both relays contested during Thursday's action. At the close of day two of competition, the Coyote men's and women's teams were in second place in the team standings.

The Coyote men made it three-for-three in all-conference performances in relays with that runner-up finish in the 200 free relay, breaking the old standard established in the fall of 1:21.06.

The women's 200 free relay quartet of Jordyn Schnell, Sabrina Sabadeanu, Ashley Storm and Meghan Atwell finished third in 1:35.29 to earn all-conference honors.

South Dakota had a pair of third-place individual finishes as Haley Pederson scored 247.30 points on the one-meter diving board and Elbert Chuang swam a new personal best of 49.87 in the 100 fly to move into fifth on the all-time charts.

Leichner lowered his school record time in the 200 IM to 1:49.36 during the morning prelims and came back to finish fifth in the 'A' final. Mack Sathre, who placed ninth, also lowered his personal best in the 200 IM and moved up one spot to eighth on the all-time charts at 1:53.54.

Two more Coyotes moved into the top 10 all-time charts while two more individuals moved up following performances on Thursday.

Maria Mattaini, a freshman, finished sixth in the 500 free in 5:03.78, to move into 10th on the all-time list. Maren Iverson swam 2:07.82 in the 200 IM to finish ninth and move into seventh on the all-time list.

Maddie Lavin, a sophomore, moved up to third all-time in the 100 fly with a 56.32 effort in the finals to finish ninth. Madilyn Sindelar finished eighth in that race in 56.61.
