VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota track and field hosts the annual Dakota Realty Alumni Meet this weekend. Action begins on Friday with multi-events at 3 p.m. with the elite sections of the weight throw scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. The full meet gets underway Saturday with both track and field events starting at 10:30 a.m.
Sixteen teams are scheduled to compete in the Dakota Realty Alumni Meet, including Summit League foes South Dakota State, North Dakota and Omaha.
South Dakota boasts the nation's top men's and women's pole vault squads as announced by the USTFCCCA earlier this week. The Coyotes also rank second in the men's high jump.
Three-time NCAA Champion and two-time Bowerman semifinalist
Chris Nilsen will compete in the men's pole vault at 3 p.m. Saturday. He jumped a new indoor school record last week at the Adidas Classic, clearing 19-0 ¾. It will be his last chance in a Coyote uniform to attempt coach
Derek Miles' DakotaDome record of 19-2 ½.
At the 2019 Dakota Realty Alumni Meet, the DakotaDome men's high jump record was broken by two individuals, senior
Zack Anderson and sophomore
Jack Durst. Anderson leapt an indoor school record and the DakotaDome record of 7-3 ¾.
There are also a few Coyotes with marks near the records on the women's side. Junior
Abby Ripperda clocked 9:41.49 for 3,000 meters at the Adidas Classic. The current DakotaDome record of 9:42.96 has stood since 1984. While the Coyotes have yet to run a distance medley relay this season, last year's crew at the Summit meet ran eight seconds faster than the DakotaDome record of 11:55.33.
Other fan events at this weekend's meet include a children's bounce house on the floor starting at 3 p.m. Saturday, a Yippin Yotes kid's race following the 4x400-meter relay, a social in the DakotaDome Club starting at 4 p.m. Saturday, and a brief program in the DakotaDome Club following the meet. An alumni gathering is scheduled at the Main Street Pub after the program.
