Five Coyotes earn all-Summit honors

TULSA, Okla..—Five Coyotes garnered all-Summit League honors on Saturday at the Summit League Cross Country Championships hosted by Oral Roberts at Holland Hall.
 
Fifth-year junior Abby Ripperda and second-year freshman Abrielle Jirele crossed the finish line together in eighth and ninth place, respectively. Ripperda completed the 6,000-meter course in 21:56.14 with Jirele .03 behind. The duo both earned all-Summit second team honors. Ripperda earned all-Summit honors for the second time in her career after making the first team in 2019. Jirele picked up her first career honors on the cross country course.
 
Fourth-year junior Maddie Lavin joined them on the all-Summit second team in 13th place, earning all-league honors for the first time. She clocked a personal best 6,000-meter time of 22:16.12.
 
Third-year sophomores Alec Atwood and Charlie Babcock earned all-Summit second team honors on the men's side. Atwood closed hard in the final loop, moving up into 11th place and clocked 25:24.97 for 8,000 meters. After missing all-Summit accolades by one place as a true freshman, he led the Coyotes for the first time on Saturday and earned his first career league honors. Babcock also picked up his first career honors, placing 13th with a time of 25:30.38.
 
South Dakota placed third in the women's team race with 67 points and fourth in the men's team race with 113 points.
 
Rounding out the women's scorers were second-year freshmen McKenna Herrmann and Lizzy Kramer in 18th and 19th place, respectively. Herrmann crossed the line in a personal best time of 22:29.95. Kramer stepped up for the Coyotes on Saturday, closing well in the second loop and finishing in USD's scoring five for the first time. She clocked a personal best of 22:35.35.
 
Third-year sophomore Helen Gould and freshman Melanie Pankow were USD's pushers. The pair finished 27th and 29th, respectively. Gould completed the course in 22:54.03 and Pankow clocked 22:57.57.
 
On the men's side, freshman Mason Sindelar was the third Coyote across the line in 29th with a time of 26:12.89. Fourth-year sophomore Jacob Waymire and second-year freshman Jarek Glenn rounded out the scorers. Waymire was 30th in 26:13.16 and Glenn took 42nd in 27:05.41. Third-year sophomore Braden Peters finished 47th in 27:30.76.
 
The NCAA Midwest Regional held in Iowa City, Iowa, is next on the docket for the Coyotes on Nov. 12.
