Box Score VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota had five players with six or more kills during Saturday's 25-14, 25-20, 25-18 Summit League sweep over Western Illinois inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
Â
South Dakota, improving to 8-7 overall and 5-1 in Summit League play, had 43 kills in the victory over the Leathernecks.
Â
"First, obviously playing at 10:30 a.m. is a little bit different," coach
Leanne Williamson said. "But, I think our players did a good job of coming out really strong that first set. That's something that we have talked a lot about as of late, so just starting stronger and not waiting until the game is fully in, so I liked how we came out really strong in that first set.
Â
"Sets two and three, I think we just got a little bit more complacent. We we're a little too comfortable."
Â
Elizabeth Juhnke tallied 10 kills and seven digs, reaching double figures in kills for the 15 time in 15 matches this season.
Maddie Wiedenfeld had a nine kill, no error contest that produced a .900 hitting percentage.
Â
Sami Slaughter and
Madison Harms each had nine kills and
Aimee Adams six for a South Dakota team that had a .326 team hitting percentage.
Â
Madison Jurgens contributed 32 assists, three digs and two service aces while defensively
Lolo Weideman had 12 digs and three service aces.
Â
The Coyotes, coming off a 12 service ace performance in Thursday's win over St. Thomas, had nine in the win over Western Illinois.
Â
"I think its (offensive balance) is huge, I think that obviously when we are passing well, it's easier to get that balance," said Williamson. "The nice thing is I actually thought we lost our passing a little bit, especially in that third set. We were out of system a lot more in that first contact so for us to still end up kind of with that balance is good."
Â
South Dakota plays its final match of its third match in five days on Monday against North Dakota inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
