VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota women's basketball has been picked fifth in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major preseason poll.
 
The Coyotes have been ranked for 70 consecutive polls released by CollegeInsider.com, including 65-straight polls among the nation's top-10 mid-majors.
 
South Dakota punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight year in 2021. The Coyotes have won four of the last seven Summit League regular season crowns and back-to-back Summit League Tournament titles.
 
South Dakota returns all five starters from last year's tournament team, including Summit League Defensive Player of the Year Hannah Sjerven, Summit League Tournament MVP Chloe Lamb and all-Summit pick Liv Korngable. The 'Big Three' accounted for 64 percent of the team's scoring last season.
 
The CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast, Western Athletic. Head coaches from 31 mid-major programs make up the voting panel.
