FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – Inclement weather and darkness forced round two of the Amelia Island Collegiate to be suspended before completed. Before the suspension, South Dakota sat in third place after one round of play and currently is in fourth place after completing 29 holes on Monday at the Amelia National Golf Club.
The Yotes shot a team score of 302 after 18 holes behind host Jacksonville State (300) and Seminole State (295). Currently, USD has a team score of 33 over-par one behind Eastern Kentucky who holds third place, Jacksonville State (+12) and Seminole State (+7).
"There are so many positives to take away from our first day back on the golf course of the spring season," head coach
Brett Bennett said. "The group finished the first round with a bunch of birdies and brought it into the house with a good score. We are about halfway through the second round and looking to do the same once we tee it up tomorrow. These young ladies are going to build on their play today to finish the tournament strong."
Currently, junior
Laerke Jensen sits tied for second after 29 holes of play with a two over-par. The Hobro, Denmark native bagged three birdies and 13 pars in round one. After the first 18 holes of play, Jensen sat in first place with a one-under, 71 to sit one stroke ahead of second place score of even par.
Freshmen
Akari Hayashi sat tied for eighth place with a two over-par, 74 after her first 18 holes as a Coyote and currently sits tied for 17
th after 29 holes with an eight under-par. The Victoria, British Columbia native recorded four birdies and eight pars in round one but has struggled in round two picking up two double bogeys along with two bogeys.
Redshirt-junior
Julia Hall finished the first 18 holes tied for 13
th place after a four over-par, 76. She currently sits tied for 28
th place with a 12 over-par score. Hall started off round one with five pars and two bogeys in her first seven holes. She picked up a double bogey and then a bogey on back-to-back holes but finished out the rest of round one with seven pars and one birdie.
The other freshman in the lineup,
Danica Badura, recorded a nine over-par, 81 after her first 18 holes as a Coyote. She currently sits tied for 34
th place with a score of 15 over-par. She recorded two birdies and seven pars in her first 18 holes.
Junior Liz Duncan sat in 40th place with a 12 over-par, 84 after the first 18 holes. After 29 holes, the Brandon, South Dakota, native sits tied for 36
th place with a 16 over-par.
South Dakota will play 25 holes on Tuesday to finish up its first tournament of the 2020-21 season. The day begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 p.m.
