The Coyotes

South Dakota (17-5, 12-2 Summit) is the defending Summit League Tournament champion and senior Hannah Sjerven is the reigning Summit Tournament MVP. The Coyotes are coming off an 89-66 win over Oral Roberts in the quarterfinals, the largest margin of victory among the advancing teams. South Dakota's three all-league picks (Sjerven, Chloe Lamb, Liv Korngable) combined for 60 of those 89 points Saturday. The Coyotes look to punch their ticket to the championship game for the eighth time in nine tries.

The Bison

North Dakota State (15-8, 9-7 Summit) defeated Denver in the Summit quarterfinals for the second-straight season, albeit as the higher seed this year. The Bison knocked down 10 3-pointers in the game and were led by all-Summit second team pick Heaven Hamling's 16 points. Hamling was a difference-maker in the regular season series with the Coyotes. She dropped 30 on night one, including the game-tying 3-pointer, but was held scoreless in the first half of game two as the Coyotes put it away. Her teammates Ryan Cobbins and Emily Dietz received honorable mention honors from the league.

The Series

North Dakota State holds a 42-35 edge on the all-time series. The Coyotes have won the last 10 consecutive games to close that gap, including a 74-51 Summit League Tournament victory in 2019. Both Sjerven and Dietz dropped 20 in that contest. This will mark the third game in 10 days between the Coyotes in the Bison, with North Dakota State visiting Vermillion for senior weekend Feb. 27-28.

One Last Thing

Chloe Lamb set a school record for consecutive games played (124) last time out. She hasn't missed a single contest in her four years as a Coyote. Lamb also climbed to 14th in USD history for scoring (1290) and sixth for 3-pointers made (180).

Jack and Charlie's Summit League Challenge

We may not be able to cheer on our teams in person, but that doesn't ruin the rivalry! There's a friendly competition taking place between the Coyotes and the Jacks this week. From now until March 9, every product sold at Charlie's store will "fill a seat" in the virtual scoreboard. Stock up on Coyote gear to support student scholarships and help USD in its race against SDSU. It's a win-win!
