Yotes Compete at Summit League Championships

VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota women's golf team will travel to Newton, Kansas to compete in the Summit League Championships presented by the U.S. Air Force Special Warfare on April 24-26. The Yotes will compete at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course with tee times starting at 8 a.m. CT daily.
 
Weather: During the practice round on Friday, there is a chance of rain but for the three-day tournament Saturday-Monday the weather is supposed to be mid 60s to 81 degrees with some wind.

Par: 72
Yardage: 6,000
Format: Eight member schools will golf 54 holes in three days, 18 holes each day, with the winner earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. Round 1 is on Saturday, round 2 is Sunday while the third and final round is on Monday.

YOTES COMPETING
The Yotes will have a lineup of Danica Badura, Akari Hayashi, Laerke Jensen, Julia Hall and Megan Munneke.
 
CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
  • The 2021 Women's Golf Championship will be the second consecutive played at the Sand Creek Station Golf Club in Newton, Kan. The championship will feature a Par-72, 6,000-yard course layout. Newton is located around 20 miles north of Wichita.
  • The Denver women will look to win their sixth tournament title in the last eight years and defend the 2019 crown that was the last trophy awarded after the 2020 event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Badura becomes the second Coyote to earn all-Summit League honors after Coyote alum Brenna Lervick was a three-time selection. Badura was named to the second team on Friday before the practice round. 
  • The Yotes recorded their best finishes at the Summit League Championships in back-to-back years in 2017-18 and 2018-19 placing fourth. In the 2017-18 season, the Yotes recorded their lowest total score of 927.
  • This will be the second conference championships for third year head coach Brett Bennett after last years was cancelled due to COVID-19. In Bennett's first season the women's team tied for their best finish at the Summit League Championships.
  • South Dakota ranks fourth as a team in scoring average on the season. Denver shoots 293, SDSU shoots 200 and Oral Roberts shoots 305. USD shoots 307.
  • Badura ranks sixth in the conference (min. 10 rounds) with a 76.1 stroke average on the season. Hayashi ranks ninth with a 76.9 stroke average. Jensen sits 14th with a 77.7 stroke average.
  • USD's score of 909 at the GCU Invite is tied for the second lowest in program history.
