Coyotes fall in Summit Tourney semifinals

Box Score DENVER, Colorado – South Dakota women's tennis team closed its season with a 4-0 setback to Denver in the Summit League tournament semifinals on Friday.

Jana Lazarevic, the Coyotes No. 1 singles player, had a 3-1 lead in the third set but was unable to finish her match.

Berta Girbau was one game away from evening her No. 4 singles match at one set apiece.

The match concluded after Denver reached the necessary four points needed to win the match.

"I am so proud of the ladies for how they competed today and this year," coach Brett Barnett said. "We got down early today and could've easily folded. First sets weren't good but they battled and fought. We had break leads on four courts again in the second (set) and couldn't split on a couple.

"Jana was playing great and up in the third and Berta was ready to split. Congrats to DU for pulling this one out."
