USD Makes Short Trip for Big O Classic

The South Dakota men's golf team is back on the course after a short break at a familiar course. The Coyotes will be competing in the Big O Classic in Elkhorn, Nebraska, on Monday and Tuesday. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. Indian Creek Golf Course will host this week's event and will play as a par 72 covering 7,242 yards in day one. Day two will cover 7,151 yards with the tee box moved up on hole number eight in Tuesday's round only.

The field for the Big O Classic consists of 14 teams from around the region. Omaha, Western Illinois, North Dakota, St. Thomas, and South Dakota State along with South Dakota will represent the Summit League. Monday's rounds will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. while Tuesday's round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The lineup will look a little different from the first two tournaments for South Dakota. Senior Max Schmidtke will play as the no. one bag followed by senior Hunter Rebrovich, graduate Bryce Hammer, sophomore Logan Hamak, and junior Nick LaMotte. Senior Ryan Neff, senior Ian Johnston, and freshman Danny Renner will play as individuals. Renner will be making his Coyote debut in this tournament. USD is coming off an eighth-place finish at the Zach Johnson Invite in Des Moines, Iowa. Hamak led the team with a tie for 36th place individually.

South Dakota last competed at Indian Creek Golf Course last spring at the Stampede at the Creek. The Coyotes claimed an eighth-place finish led by Rebrovich's 21st place finish after a seven-over par week. Schmidtke also placed in the top-30 with a 26th place finish after a nine-over par tournament.
