South Dakota looks to start a new streak Sunday when the Coyotes host the Montana Grizzlies in a noon tip inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
Â
The Coyotes have lost four in a row for just the fourth time at the Division I level, which spans the last 14 seasons. The program has never lost five in a row in that span. USD is hoping a season-long, five-game home stand is the cure as the Coyotes push towards conference play.

The Coyotes
South Dakota (4-5) continues to fill roles left by last year's starting five, but early season injuries have made the task that much harder. Since
Madison Grange was injured in the team' last win, the Coyotes have averaged 58 points and shot 32 percent from the field. Opponents, meanwhile, have averaged 77 points and shot 45 percent from the field.
Â
Morgan Hansen earned her first collegiate start last time out against Drake and contributed 10 points for the second game in a row. She is the team's third-leading scorer behind
Grace Larkins and
Alexi Hempe. Larkins leads the Coyotes in points, rebounds, assists and steals.
Â
The Grizzlies
Montana (2-5) is seeking growth in year two under Brian Holsinger after going 19-11 in year one. The Grizzlies have already faced two Summit League foes. They lost 65-63 at home to North Dakota State to start the season and beat North Dakota 82-77 at home two weeks later. The Grizzlies have lost all three games since that win, but against big name schools in Wichita State, Cal and Washington State. They play Grand Canyon Thursday before arriving in Vermillion.
Â
Holsinger returns three starters and one of them, Carmen Gfeller, returned two games ago from a foot injury that delayed her start to the season. The team has added Gina Marxen (Idaho) and Keeli Burton-Oliver (Arizona State/ Washington State) along with true freshmen Libby Stump and Mack Konig. Marxen was a three-year starter at Idaho who is averaging 11 points and 4.5 assists through seven games. The Grizzlies take 23 three-point shot per game and have committed very few fouls through seven games.
Â
The Series
The two programs first met with a home-and-away series in late 2018 and 2019. South Dakota won those games by scores of 64-41 (in Missoula) and 96-64 (in Vermillion).
