Coyotes Make Short Trip Down to Omaha

The Game

After a heartbreaking road loss to North Dakota State on Monday, South Dakota goes back on the road for the weekend. The next stop on the trip is in Omaha, Nebraska, Thursday night for a 7 p.m. tip against the Omaha Mavericks.

The game will be streamed for free on OMavs.com. Fans can tune into the game on the Coyote Sports Network with John Thayer, carried on KVHT 106.3 FM in Yankton/Vermillion or by using The Varsity Network app.

The Series

South Dakota leads the all-time series against Omaha 62-50. The Coyotes have won eight of the last 10 against the Mavericks including a current five-game winning streak.

The Coyotes

USD is coming off a two-point defeat at North Dakota State on Monday night. The Coyotes got 21 points from Tasos Kamateros and 16 from Mason Archambault. Kruz Perrott-Hunt added 13 points.

USD and UNO last met on Jan. 15 in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. In that game, the Coyotes knocked down a Division I-era record 17 three-pointers in a 105-70 win which equals the largest margin of victory in the series. Six players recorded double-digit scoring efforts in the previous meeting led by 25 points from Archambault. Kamateros and Perrott-Hunt followed Archambault with 15 points each while Keaton Kutcher and Erik Oliver dished in 11 points each off the bench.

The Mavericks

Omaha (4-20, 3-10) heads into Thursday's game battling for a spot in the Summit League Tournament. The Mavs dropped a road game at North Dakota Saturday and are in eighth place in the conference standings. All four of UNO's wins this season have come at home.

Frankie Fidler has taken over lead-scoring duties for the Omaha offense. The freshman from Bellevue, Nebraska, is averaging 14 points per game in Summit League play and coming off a career-high 37 points in the loss in Grand Forks. Felix Lemetti is second on the team in scoring with 10.5 points per game. Fidler and Lemetti each scored 11 points in the previous meeting at South Dakota.

One Last Thing

Perrott-Hunt and Archambault have each scored in double figures in all 10 games since the start of 2022. Perrott-Hunt has three 20-point outings in that span while Archambault has two such performances. Kamateros has scored 21 points in two of the last three games.
