South Dakota men's golf is scheduled to begin their spring season at the Advance Partner's Intercollegiate tournament Sunday through Tuesday. The tournament is hosted by UNC-Greensboro and taking place in Palm City, Florida, at the Hammock Creek Golf Club.
The first tournament of the spring for the Coyotes will consist of three days of 18-hole rounds. The first two rounds on Sunday and Monday will start at 6:30 am CT with tee times and end on Tuesday with the final shotgun start round at 7:30 am CT. Hammock Creek Golf Club will play as a par 72 and cover 7,169 yards.
USD's lineup for their first tournament in 2022 will feature junior
Max Schmidtke, junior
Hunter Rebrovich, senior
Ben Hicks, junior
Ian Johnston, and junior
Ryan Neff. Sophomore
Nick LaMotte will be competing as an individual. Hicks is returning to the lineup after missing the last four events due to injury while Schmidtke is playing after being named a Summit League golfer to watch by the league office.
"It is exciting to be prepping for a tournament again and having the opportunity to see all of our hard work from the off-season come to life," said Schmidtke. "In every aspect we've continued to learn and grow collectively; now it is time for us to bring that into the arena and see where the chips fall. We're grateful for the chance to compete and represent this University."
The Coyotes finished in 13
th place as a team in their last fall competition at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate tournament. As a team, USD recorded scores of 295-284-300 for a total score of 879 after three rounds in North Carolina. Schmidtke capped off his impressive fall season tying for 12th place after firing rounds of 72-68-72 during the three-day tournament. The junior from Sheboygan, Wisconsin recorded three top-10 placements in the fall and led the team with a 73.13 stroke average.
Ian Johnston is second on the team with a 76.40 stroke average in the fall.
"We have had a great 6 weeks of preparation," said USD head coach
John Vining. "We have been really lucky having the ability to play outside at the bluffs a number of times before our first event. Something we don't typically have the luxury of. This group has been eager to get better and learn. I really believe we have a collective growth mindset, and we are going to see this team improve throughout this championship season. We are going to take this first event as an opportunity to showcase the work we've put in and go from there."
