South Dakota Completes Day One in Arizona With 1-Under Par Round

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The South Dakota men's golf team completed their first round of action at the Loyola Intercollegiate tournament. The Coyotes shot 1-under par as a team for a team score of 287 in round one. USD sits in a tie for 8th place out of 18 teams heading into day two.
 
The Coyotes were led by juniors Max Schmidtke and Hunter Rebrovich in the first 18. Both Schmidtke and Rebrovich recorded scores of 1-under par 71 and in a tie for 25th place individually. Schmidtke recorded four birdies in his first round included two in his last three holes to end his day. Rebrovich parred 15 holes and carded two birdies to get him under par after the first day.
 
Junior Ryan Neff ended his opening 18 with an even 72. Neff sank three birdies in the round and sits in a tie for 34th place individually.
 
Junior Ian Johnston finished at 1-over par 73 in day one. Johnston scored four birdies on the day including back-to-back birdies on hole one and two. Joining him in a tie for 49th place individually is freshman Logan Hamak. Playing as an individual, Hamak parred 15 holes and birdied the par-four 5th hole in his first action of the spring.
 
Sophomore Nick LaMotte rounded out the team with a 2-over par 74 Sunday. LaMotte recorded three birdies including his last hole of the day at the par-5 14th hole. He currently is in a tie for 65th individually.
 
South Dakota will look to move up the leaderboard tomorrow morning in round two. The second round of the tournament is set to shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. CT Monday morning.
