KYLE, Texas - The South Dakota women's golf team wrapped up final day play at the Texas State Invitational Tuesday afternoon with a ninth-place finish. USD compiled a team score of 930 over the 54-hole tournament.Â
The Coyotes, playing their spring season opener, were led by sophomore Danica Badura who ended in a tie for 11th place at the conclusion of the tournament.
Badura recorded rounds of 76, 71, and 77 for a 224 over the course of the two days. She was one of five players to record an eagle throughout the tournament when she eagled the par-five 11 in her second round. She birdied 16 on the back nine to start round three and finished at 5-over par. Badura placed 11th in par-5's with a 4.93 stroke average and sunk the sixth-most pars in the tournament with 34 pars in three rounds.
Senior Laerke Jensen ended up in a tie for 32nd with rounds of 73, 79, and 80 for a 232. Jensen recorded back-to-back birdies to start her front nine and ended up at eight-over par in day two. Throughout the two days, Jensen carded the most birdies on the team with a total of seven in her three rounds.
Sophomore Akari Hayashi concluded her tournament with a 79 on the final day. Hayashi earned two birdies on the back nine including a birdie on her last hole of the day. She finished in 45th after a 237 three-round total.
Freshman Paige Hoffman finished in 48th place in her second tournament in the Coyote starting lineup. Hoffman carded two birdies on the final day for an eight-over third round and a 239 total.
Junior Jalea Culliver completed the tournament with her best round on the final day. Culliver fired a 6-over 78 in the final round that included three birdies on her scorecard. She finished in 60th place with a 249 total over the two days.
Competing as an individual, senior Molly Fossen finished her tournament with an 81 in round three. Fossen recorded back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16 and another birdie on hole 3 in her final round. She wrapped up the tournament in a tie for 54th place with a 242 overall score.
South Dakota totaled 143 pars and 26 birdies over the 54-hole tournament. With Badura's eagle, the Coyotes were one of five teams to record an eagle at the Texas State Invitational.
USD will have a few weeks off before heading down to Arizona for the Rio Verde Invite. The tournament runs over three days and will begin on Feb. 25 in Rio Verde, Arizona.
