South Dakota Heads South for HBU Women's Invite

The South Dakota women's golf team travels south for the HBU Women's Huskies Invitational after a two-week break. The tournament starts on Monday and consists of three rounds in two days.

The tournament field comprises of 14 teams including conference foes North Dakota, Omaha, and Western Illinois. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 holes on Tuesday. Both days are set to shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. from Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas. The course plays as a par 72 and covers 6,084 yards.

South Dakota's lineup will feature one change compared to the previous tournament lineup. The Coyotes will trot out senior Laerke Jensen, sophomore Danica Badura, sophomore Akari Hayashi, senior Megan Munneke, and senior Molly Fossen.

The Coyotes are coming off record-breaking performances at the Rio Verde Invite back in late February. The team compiled scores of 308-294-302 for a three-day total of 904. The 904 is the lowest team score in a 54-hole event in program history. The previous best was 906 set back in 2018. Before setting the 54-hole record, the team first broke a record for their lowest round relative to par with a 6-over par score. In that round, Hayashi tied a career-low score with a 2-under 70 while Munneke carded a 1-under par 71 for a new career-low. Both Hayashi and Munneke finished in the top-15 for the first time this season.

Fans can hear from Megan Munneke and head coach Brett Bennett in the latest episode of Catching up with Women's Golf. Munneke talks about the team's play at the Rio Verde Invite while Bennett previews the upcoming tournament for the Coyotes.
