South Dakota, #12/12 Michigan meet in Sweet 16

The Game

South Dakota women's basketball takes on #12/12 Michigan at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 held at INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
 
The game will be broadcast by ESPN2 with play-by-play from head coach Pam Ward, analysis from Stephanie White and sideline reporting by Christy Winters Scott. That broadcast will be available for streaming on the WatchESPN app.
 
Fans can also tune into the game on the Coyote Sports Network with Carter Woodiel on KVHT 106.3 in Yankton/Vermillion or by using the Varsity Network app. The official NCAA Radio broadcast by Westwood One with play-by-play from Phil Constantino and analysis by Kristen Kozlowski can be heard on Sirius channel 138 and XM channel 205. The Coyotes

South Dakota (29-5, 17-1 Summit), the No. 10 seed in the Wichita Region, has reached the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history with wins over Ole Miss and Baylor. The Coyotes become just the second Summit League team to reach the Sweet 16 in history. South Dakota is making its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in 10 seasons of eligibility at the Division I level. The Coyotes are led by a trio of super seniors that have accounted for nearly two-thirds of USD's scoring over the last two years – Summit League Player of the Year Chloe Lamb, Summit Defensive Player of the Year Hannah Sjerven and all-Summit pick Liv Korngable. Joining them in the starting lineup are second-year freshmen are Maddie Krull and Kyah Watson. Freshman Grace Larkins was named the Summit's Sixth Woman of the Year. Sjerven and Lamb have averaged 18 and 17.5 points in two tournament games, while Korngable joins them in double-figures with 10.5.
 

The Wolverines

No. 12/12 Michigan (24-6, 13-4 Big Ten), the No. 3 seed in the Wichita Region, makes its second consecutive appearance in the Sweet 16 after wins over American and Villanova on its home floor. Naz Hillmon, an All-American and the 2021 Big Ten Player of the Year, leads the squad with 21.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. She recorded her 50th career double-double last time out against Villanova. She's second all-time in scoring (2,148) and first in rebounding (1,042) in Michigan women's basketball history. Leigha Brown joins her in double-figures with 14.7 points per game. The Wolverines are one of four Big 10 teams to advance to the Sweet 16 for the second-straight year, joining Ohio State, Maryland and Indiana this year.
 

The Series

This is the first meeting between South Dakota and Michigan in program history.
 

One Last Thing

South Dakota has never trailed in 80 minutes of the NCAA Tournament for two of the biggest wins in program history. Both wins came by a 14-point margin. USD's 61-47 win over No. 7/5 Baylor was the program's first-ever win over a top-10 team in five tries.
