Coyotes Break 54-Hole Team Record and Claim Second Place at Stampede at the Creek

ELKHORN, Neb. - South Dakota concluded the final round at the Stampede at the Creek on Tuesday by breaking another program record. The Coyotes racked up their third consecutive runner-up finish with an 894 overall score and set a new record for the lowest 54-hole score as a team. The previous record for the lowest 54-hole score was 904 set back at the end of February this season at the Rio Verde Invite. Four Coyotes finished in the top ten in Laerke Jensen, Akari Hayashi, Danica Badura, and Paige Hoffman for the second time in program history.
 
Jensen closed out the Stampede at the Creek with a 1-over 73 in the final round – the lowest round for the Coyotes on Tuesday. She tallied 16 pars on the day and sank a birdie on the par-3 17th hole. The senior led the field in par three scoring average with a 1-under par average and collected the most pars among all players with 41 total pars throughout the tournament. Jensen also finished fourth in par four scoring average with a 4.13 average. With a total score of 221 (77-71-73), she earned her fourth top-five finish of the season by placing fourth at the Stampede at the Creek.
 
Hayashi posted a final round of 78 at Indian Creek Golf Course. She sank two birdies on the front nine for a total of eight in the three-rounds, good for third most among all players. The sophomore finished second in the field with a 4.10 scoring average on par fours and second in par fives with a 2-under par average. Hayashi was also one of three players to card an eagle during the tournament. Her three-round total of 223 (75-70-78) earned her a tie for sixth place and the third top-10 placement on the year.
 
Badura carded a 3-over 75 in the final round of action in Elkhorn. She sank two birdies on the back nine for six total birdies throughout the tournament. The sophomore finished third on par threes with an even scoring average and fifth on par fours with a 4.17 stroke average. She also recorded the fifth-most pars in the tournament with 37 in total. Badura's three-round total of 223 (77-71-75) tied her with Hayashi for sixth place and posted her third top-ten finish of the season.
 
Freshman Paige Hoffman recorded a 3-over 75 in the third round Tuesday. Hoffman scored two birdies on the front nine and 12 pars in her final 18. She tied with Badura for fifth-best scoring average on par fours with a 4.17 stroke average and claimed the second-most pars with 38 in three-rounds. Hoffman's three-round total of 228 (74-79-75) tied her for ninth place – the highest finish in her freshman campaign.
 
Senior Emma Sabbagh closed out her tournament with a 5-over 77 in the final round. Sabbagh sank her lone birdie of the day on the par-five 16th hole and totaled four birdies during the two days. She recorded a 1-under par scoring average on par-five holes during the tournament, good for fifth best among all players. Sabbagh's two-day total of 232 (77-78-77) tied her for 16th place and tied her for the highest finish among individual-only players.
 
Senior Molly Fossen carded a 79 in the third round of the Stampede at the Creek. Fossen scored a birdie on the par-five sixth hole, bringing her three-round total to five birdies. Her 54-hole score of 234 (77-78-79) placed her in a tie for 19th place and her third-straight top-20 finish this season.
 
Junior Jalea Culliver recorded an 81 in the third round on Tuesday. She scored two birdies in total during the two days in Elkhorn. Culliver tied her best 54-hole score of the season with a 236 (79-76-81) total score and earned her highest finish of the season with a tie for 23rd place.
 
Senior Megan Munneke shot an 83 in the final round at the Stampede at the Creek. Munneke's three-round total of 237 (77-77-83) placed her in 25th place. It is the second top-25 finish for Munneke on the season.
 
Senior Liz Duncan ended her first action of the spring with an 85 in the final round. Duncan recorded her lone birdie of the tournament on the 18th hole of the third round. Her 245 total score (79-81-85) placed her in a tie for 36th place individually.
 
As a team, South Dakota placed at the top in two categories. The Coyotes averaged the best par four scoring average and totaled the most pars with 175 during the tournament. USD tallied the second-most birdies with 27 at Indian Creek Golf Course and was one of three teams with an eagle thanks to Hayashi's eagle in round two.

The Coyotes will wrap up the season with the Summit League Championships next. The three-day event begins on Sunday, April 24 from Newton, Kansas.
