South Dakota basketball signs Walker Demers

04.13.2022

VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota women's basketball head coach Kayla Karius is pleased to announce the singing of Walker Demers to a National Letter of Intent.

"We are thrilled to have Walker officially join our Coyote program today!" said Karius. "She is a talented back-to-the-basket post player who will bring great depth to our frontcourt. Walker comes from winning programs, both at Grafton High School in North Dakota and North Tartan AAU in Minnesota.

"We love her work ethic and enthusiasm for the game and are very excited to have Walker and her family join our Coyote family!"

A 6-foot-3 center out of Grafton, North Dakota, Demers will graduate high school in three years to enroll early at South Dakota. She's played four seasons with the Spoilers, tallying more than 1,000 points, 750 rebounds and 200 blocks in her prep career. She led Grafton High School to a record of 110-18 in that span. Demers averaged a double-double of 16 points and 10.6 rebounds per game this past season en route to garnering all-state honors. She's made the all-region team for three-straight years, the all-state tournament team for three years and was the 2021 North Dakota State Tournament MVP. Demers swatted a state-leading 98 blocks during the 2020 season and owns Grafton's school record for rebounds in a single game (22) from this past season. She also played in the AAU circuit with North Tartan EYBL and ND Pro.

Outside of the gym, Demers is the Student Council President, a National Honor Society member, a member of the academic Olympic team and an honor roll student. She plans to major in medical biology at South Dakota.

Demers joins Joy Bergstrom in the Coyotes' incoming freshman class.
