DES MOINES, Iowa—South Dakota third-year sophomore Ella Byers' runner-up finish in the 1,500 meters at the Drake Relays Thursday night inside Drake Stadium.
 
Byers clocked a personal best of 4:24.35 to take second in the unseeded section of the 1,500 meters. Her time moved her to third in USD program history.
 
Fifth-year junior Abby Ripperda finished fourth in the women's 10,000 meters. She clocked a season-best time of 35:44.06.
 
Fourth-year junior Merga Gemeda improved his personal best in the 5,000 meters, crossing the finish line in 14:24.04. The time ranks fifth in USD program history. He took 14th in the unseeded 5,000 meters.
 
Third-year sophomore Helen Gould finished 18th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a clocking of 10:45.09.
 
South Dakota resumes action Friday morning at the Drake Relays. The Coyotes' first event of the morning is the women's javelin throw at 11 a.m.
