South Dakota Prepared for Summit League Championships

The South Dakota men's golf team begins postseason play on Sunday at the Summit League Championships. The three-day tournament takes place at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas.

Each of the three rounds will start as early as 8:00 a.m. The Coyotes will be one of the first teams off the tee on Sunday as they have the earliest tee times to start the tournament. Tee times on the remaining two days will be determined by previous results. Sand Creek Station Golf Course plays as a par 72 and covers 7,086 yards.

USD's lineup for the Summit League Championships features junior Max Schmidtke (8:40 a.m. tee time), junior Hunter Rebrovich (8:30 a.m. tee time), junior Ian Johnston (8:20 a.m. tee time), junior Ryan Neff (8:10 a.m. tee time), and sophomore Nick LaMotte (8:00 a.m. tee time). Freshman Logan Hamak will travel with the team as a potential substitute.

The Coyotes are coming off a second-place finish in a duel against St. Thomas on April 22 and an eighth-place finish at the Stampede at the Creek back on April 11 and 12. Schmidtke heads into the Summit League Championships leading the team in stroke average at 73.41 and relative to par average at 2-over par. The Sheboygan, Wisconsin, native has earned two top-10 placements on the season including a third-place finish at the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invite back in the fall season.

South Dakota finished in a tie for fifth place at the 2021 Summit League Championships. Johnston recorded a top-15 placement individually and sank the most birdies for the Coyotes with 11 in the tournament. In his fourth season with the Coyotes, head coach John Vining has recorded two top-five finishes at the Summit League Championships including a runner-up finish his first season in 2019.
