Jalea Culliver competed at the 2022 PGA WORKS Collegiate Championships as an individual and wrapped her tournament on Wednesday. The tournament was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and hosted at one of the most highly ranked and oldest city clubs in the country. Rounds one and three were played at Union League Liberty Hill golf course while round two was played at the Union League Golf Club at Torresdale.
Created in 1986, the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship is an annual event that boasts itself as the most culturally significant championship in collegiate golf. The tournament hosts student-athletes enrolled in Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-serving institutions, and other minority-serving educational institutions. The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship aims to educate and inspire student-athletes to pursue career opportunities in the business of golf and beyond.
The Championships is a 54-hole, stroke-play event and consists of a team division and an individual division. Culliver played in the individual division which is open to all minority men and women student-athletes playing collegiate golf at any level.
"This was an unforgettable experience and I'm so grateful for the opportunities I've been given because of golf," said Culliver about playing in the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championships. "It was an amazing change of perspective and I made so many new connections. This tournament gives me hope that the future of golf is bright and is filled with people who are misrepresented in the sport."
Culliver shot a 3-over par 75 in the opening round. She carded a birdie on the par-four 16th hole and closed out her round with an eagle on the par-five ninth hole. Culliver then went on to record a 92 in round two and an 80 in round three. The Omaha, Nebraska, native finished in 22nd place individually and recorded a total of four birdies and 21 pars. Culliver was one of three players to card an eagle during the tournament and finished with the fifth-best scoring average on par-three holes with a 3.15 stroke average.
Culliver will be one of five returners on next year's Coyote squad. She will be one of two seniors on the team and plans to graduate with her degree in business next spring.
