Coach Lavin joins YoteCast’s Title IX Series

09.15.2022

South Dakota Hall of Fame women's basketball coach Chad Lavin joins YoteCast this week, the official podcast of South Dakota athletics hosted by the voice of the Coyotes, John Thayer.

Lavin was the women's basketball coach at USD for two stints – from 1982-86 and from 1998-2008. On this week's show, he talks about how the athletic department quickly evolved following the Title IX legislation. He talks of the funding of 10 scholarships by 1978 and of South Dakota competing at the Division I level as a member of the AIAW before the switch to the NCAA.

Lavin also talks about team travel, work out facilities and how things at USD have changed for the better. He also touches on former players Mandy Koupal and Amber (Hegge) Cunningham as Amber is set to be inducted into the Coyote Sports Hall of Fame on Friday.

This week's show also features athletic director David Herbster as the Coyotes prepare for their home opener in football Saturday. Thayer also brings on the voice of Cal Poly football, Zachary Anderson-Yoxsimer, to preview the big game.

YoteCast is available across a variety of platforms – Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Stitcher – every Thursday afternoon. Subscribe on your favorite platform so you never miss an episode.
