Mülla garners Academic All-America recognition

06.28.2023

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—A four-time All-American in the pole vault, South Dakota sophomore Marleen Mülla can add Academic All-American to her resume. Mülla was named to the women's track and field Academic All-America second team by the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) on Wednesday morning.

Mülla becomes the 57th Coyote to garner Academic All-America status across all sports. South Dakota's 57 Academic All-Americans have combined to tally 73 total honors. The track and field program has amassed 20 honors in the last 25 years.

Hailing from Rakvere, Estonia, Mülla boasts a 4.00 grade-point average as a sport marketing and media major. She placed third at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a vault of 14-7 ¼ (4.45m) and followed up with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Both performances garnered first-team All-America accolades. She was the Summit League champion indoors and the runner-up during the outdoor season.

Mülla led the nation during the indoor season with a personal best height of 14-11 (4.55m) set at the Summit League Championships inside the DakotaDome. The mark broke the meet record and South Dakota's school record. She went on to be named the Summit League Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution, boast a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 and be nominated by their institution's sports information director. Mülla was selected from a list that began with more than 800 nominees.
