VERMILLION, S.D.—An early look at the Summit League Championship course, a return to the renowned Roy Griak Invitational and a pair of local competitions highlight the 2023 South Dakota cross country schedule released Tuesday.
The season starts off at the Augustana Twilight (Sept. 1) at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Coyote women have won six of the last seven Augustana Twilight team titles.
With a quick turnaround, the Coyotes head further north on Interstate 29 for the SDSU Classic (Sept. 8) at Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings, South Dakota. The Coyotes will get an early look at the course ahead of the Summit League Championships in October.
South Dakota returns to the Roy Griak Invitational (Sept. 22) after missing last year's event. The race at Les Bolstad Golf Course traditionally features a handful of nationally ranked teams.
The Coyotes will also make a return to the Bradley Pink Classic (Oct. 13) at Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Illinois. This will be the eighth trip in the last nine seasons to Peoria. USD's women won the meet in 2017 and have finished runner-up three times.
For a final regular season tune-up, South Dakota will send athletes to the Mount Marty Invitational (Oct. 21) in Yankton, South Dakota.
The championship slate kicks off with the Summit League Championships on Oct. 28, hosted by South Dakota State in Brookings. The meet returns to Brookings for the first time since 2015.
Next up is the NCAA Midwest Regional (Nov. 10) at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Should either the men or women finish in the top two at the meet or receive a wildcard bid, they would advance to the 2023 NCAA Championships held in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Nov. 18.
