VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota director of track and field & cross country Lucky Huber is pleased to announce the addition of four newcomers to the men's cross country and track & field squad for the 2023-24 season.
Grant Dixon | Distance | Omaha, Neb. | Elkhorn South HS
Grant Dixon was a medal-winner at the 2022 Nebraska State Cross Country Championships, placing 15th at the meet his senior season. He was also a member of Elkhorn South's state championship team as a sophomore. He also anchored the Storm's third-place 4x800-meter relay at the 2021 Nebraska state track and field meet. He owns personal bests of 1:58 for 800 meters, 4:26 for 1,600 meters and 15:49 for 5,000 meters. Dixon was an honor roll student, academic all-Metropolitan Conference and academic all-state.
Trevor Hiatt | Distance | Owatonna, Minn. | Owatonna HS
Trevor Hiatt was a four-time all-Big 9 honoree in cross country and two-time honoree on the track at Owatonna High School. He also qualified for the Minnesota state cross country meet as a senior. He owns personal bests of 4:30 for 1,600 meters and 16:05 for 5,000 meters. A member of the National Honor Society, Hiatt was a two-time academic all-state and two-time academic honor roll honoree.
Carson Lauterbach | Distance | Lincoln, Neb. | Southeast HS | Northwest Missouri State
A transfer from Northwest Missouri State, Carson Lauterbach spent his freshman year racing for the Bearcats. His collegiate 8,000-meter best came at the Platte River Rumble, clocking 25:34.7 for 40th in the combined-division meet. He also owns collegiate bests of 4:26 for the mile, 8:42 for 3,000 meters and 9:25 for the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Lauterbach was a three-time qualifier for the state championships at Lincoln Southeast High School. A member of the National Honor Society, Lauterbach was an academic all-conference and academic all-state honoree.
Justin Sorensen | Distance | Vermillion, S.D. | Vermillion HS | Dakota Wesleyan
A graduate transfer from Dakota Wesleyan, Justin Sorensen was a three-time all-GPAC honoree on the track. He helped the Tigers place third at the Great Plains Athletic Conference cross country championships during the fall of his senior year. He owns collegiate bests of 1:56 for 800 meters, 9:15 for 3,000 meters and 25:56 for 8,000 meters. As a prep, Sorensen won a state title with his 4x800-meter relay at Vermillion High School. The squad won four-straight 4x800 region championships during his prep career. The Tanagers also finished runner-up in cross country during his senior season. Individually, he placed in the top-eight of the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters at the 2019 South Dakota State Track & Field Championships. Sorensen was a member of the National Honors Society, the VHS Honors Program and was a South Dakota Regents' Scholar.
The quartet joins the 28 track and field additions announced in February.
