Coyotes open their season in Colorado Springs

South Dakota men's golf will open its season at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sunday. The event will take place at Eisenhower Golf Course. Participants will play three rounds over the course of three days.

The field consists of 25 teams, mostly from the west coast. The Colorado State Rams will be returning to the tournament following a 30-under par win last year.

South Dakota's roster includes five Coyotes playing as a team and one individual representing South Dakota in a separate tournament. The team tournament will take place at Eisenhower Golf Course on the blue course. The individual tournament will take place on the same property but at a different 18 holes on the silver course.

Senior Max Schmidtke will play for the team in the tournament. Schmidtke led the Coyotes last year with a 74.21 stroke average which is 10th best in program history. Junior Logan Hamak recorded the second-lowest 36-hole score in program history last year with a 136 at the Duel at The Bluffs. Senior Ryan Neff will also be competing for the team this Sunday. Last year Neff won the Augustana Spring Invite as an individual. Rounding out the Coyotes' team roster are two freshmen: Cole Witherow (Woodbury, MN) and Joe Rohlwing (Apple Valley, MN).

Senior Nick LaMotte will compete for the Coyotes as an individual. Last year LaMotte tied a program record for lowest round in school history with a 64 at the Duel at The Bluffs in round two.
