Three-game road stretch starts at Kansas City

The Game

South Dakota women's basketball travels to Kansas City for a game at 7 p.m. Thursday inside the Swinney Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

The game will be live streamed on the Summit League Network available via the Midco Sports Plus app. Fans can also tune into the game on the Coyote Sports Network with Jerry Palleschi on KVTK 101.5 in Yankton/Vermillion or by using the Varsity Network app.

The Coyotes

South Dakota (18-9, 7-5) embarks on its longest road stretch of conference play, starting with a two-game weekend road trip south. The Coyotes are coming off a 75-61 win over St. Thomas on Saturday.

Junior guard Grace Larkins moved into 20th on USD's scoring charts and is one of six players in USD history to accumulate more than 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 300 assists. The do-it-all guard is also shooting 50-40-80 this season. Fourth-year junior guard Kendall Holmes was the Coyotes' leading scorer in both games last week. She's now recorded three 20-point games in conference play. Third-year sophomore Carley Duffney is also on a four-game streak of reaching double figures. She returned to the starting lineup last Saturday.

The Roos

Kansas City (11-16, 2-10) is in its second season under head coach Dionnah Jackson-Durrett, who had previously served as an assistant under Vic Schaefer at Mississippi State and Texas. She coached in five consecutive NCAA Elite Eights prior to taking the head coaching job and brought that March Madness to the Roos last season at the Summit League Tournament as the 10th-seeded Kansas City squad advanced to the semifinals.

Alayna Contreras has led the Roos with 10.4 points per game this season. Similar to the Coyotes, the Roos have a deep bench that has averaged 28.7 points for game, the seventh most in the country. Kansas City ranks third in the Summit in scoring defense, allowing 64.9 points per game, with Ifunanya Nwachukwu ranking third in the league for blocks per game (1.08).

The Series

South Dakota holds a 10-4 advantage in the series with Kansas City, winning the last nine straight.
