VERMILLION, S.D.—Eleven South Dakota track and field athletes, six women and five men, have been voted to the Academic All-Summit League Outdoor Track and Field teams announced Thursday by the league office.
Representing the Coyote women are
Erin Kinney,
Sara Reifenrath,
Jacy Pulse,
Marleen Mülla,
Gen Hirata and
Averi Schmeichel. Representing USD's men are
Dylan Kautz,
Bennett Schwenn,
Marshall Faurot,
Spencer Buley and
Eerik Haamer.
Spencer Buley, who hails from McKinney, Texas, collects his second career accolade. Buley placed fourth in the pole vault at the Summit League Championships with a personal best vault of 17-1 ½ (5.22m). The height vaulted him to eighth in program history. Buley boasts a perfect 4.00 grade-point average as a sport marketing and media major.
Marshall Faurot, a native of Scott City, Kansas, garners his seventh career honor. Faurot captured a Summit League Championship title in the pole vault with a personal best vault of 18-1 ¼ (5.52m). That mark qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships, where he went on to place eighth and garner All-America first team accolades. He was also named the Summit League's Most Outstanding Performer of the Championships. Faurot graduated with a degree in kinesiology and sport management last May and carries a 3.75 GPA through his first semester of working towards his MBA.
Eerik Haamer, hailing from Tartu, Estonia, picks up his second career accolade. Haamer was the Summit League runner-up in the pole vault with a vault of 17-7 ¼ (5.37m). The performance earned him all-Summit League honors. Haamer owns a 3.73 grade-point average as a neuroscience major.
Gen Hirata, who hails from Fredericksburg, Virginia, garners her sixth career accolade. Hirata captured the Summit League title in the pole vault with a season-best clearance of 13-11 (4.24m) at the Summit League Championships. Hirata graduated with a bachleor's degree in media and journalism last May and owns a perfect 4.00 through her first semester of graduate school working towards a master's in interdisciplinary studies.
Dylan Kautz, a native of Norfolk, Nebraska, collects his sixth career honor. Kautz won the 200 meters at the Summit League Championships in 21.61 seconds. He also finished runner-up in the 60 meters for all-Summit League honors, accounting for 18 team points at the meet. Kautz graduated last May with his bachelor's degree in accounting and boasts a perfect 4.00 GPA in working towards his MBA.
Erin Kinney, a native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, garners her third career accolade. Kinney captured Summit League titles in both the 60 meters and the 4x400-meter relay. She also earned all-Summit honors in the 200 meters with a runner-up finish, accounting for 20.5 points at the Summit League Championships. She won the 60 meters in 7.31 seconds and was a part of the meet record 4x400 time of 3:34.54. Kinney owns a 3.92 grade-point average as a kinesiology and sport management major.
Marleen Mülla, who hails from Rakvere, Estonia, collects her third career honor. Mülla garnered All-America second team honors this season. She vaulted a season-best 14-7 ¼ (4.45m) at Nebraska to qualify for the NCAA Championships. She finished runner-up at the Summit League Championships for all-Summit honors. Mülla boasts a perfect 4.00 grade-point average as an art major.
Jacy Pulse, a native of Salem, South Dakota, garners her fourth career accolade. Pulse ran on the Coyotes' championship winning 4x400-meter and distance medley relays. She also earned all-Summit League honors in the 400 meters and took fifth in the 200 meters, scoring 15 points at the Summit League Championships. Both relays set Summit League Championships meet records with the 4x400 clocking 3:34.54 and the distance medley posting a time of 11:36.56. Pulse carries a 3.96 grade-point average as a nursing major.
Sara Reifenrath, a native of Hartington, Nebraska, receives her third career honor. Reifenrath was the 2024 Summit League Scholar of the Championship. She ran on the Coyotes' record-breaking 4x400-meter relay, that clocked 3:34.54 to win gold. She also earned all-Summit honors in the 400 meters and the 200 meters to score 16.5 points at the Summit League Championships. Reifenrath boasts a perfect 4.00 grade-point average as a computer science major.
Averi Schmeichel, a native of Hartford, South Dakota, collects her second career accolade. Schmeichel also ran on the Coyotes' championship 4x400-meter relay that took gold in a meet record time of 3:34.54. She also earned all-Summit honors in the 60-meter hurdles, placing third in a time of 8.46 seconds. Schmeichel boasts a perfect 4.00 grade-point average as a nursing major.
Bennett Schwenn, a native of Milbank, South Dakota, makes the team in his first season of eligibility. Schwenn was the Summit League champion in the long jump, leaping a personal best of 24-11 (7.59m) to break a 46-year-old school record. He also placed sixth in the triple jump at the Summit meet. Schwenn boasts a perfect 4.00 grade-point average as a pre-business major.
To be eligible for Academic All-Summit League, a student-athlete must have a cumulative career grade point average (GPA) above 3.3, have completed one full academic year at their current institution and have participated in at least 50 percent of their team's competitions. The 15-person teams are voted on by the league's sports information directors and faculty athletic representatives.
