HUMACAO, Puerto Rico – The South Dakota women's golf team sits in fifth place in a twelve team field after day one of the Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Ball State University.  
Ella Greenberg leads the Coyotes in a tie for eighth place with a score of 1-under par score of 71.
 
Greenberg's round was highlighted by an eagle on the tenth hole.  She also knocked in a pair of birdies and only scored two bogeys to finish the round below par. 
 
Three other Coyotes finished in the top 30 in the 71-golfer field.  Freshman 
Ava Schroeder shook off a rough start and rallied with three late birdies to finish with a 2-over par score of 74, good for a tie for 20
th place overall.  
Emma Henningsson matched 
Ella Greenberg's eagle on hole ten, but struggled for a stretch herself.  She also righted the ship late for a final score of 3-over par 75, good for a tie for 28
th place.  Also tied for 28
th was 
Catie Nekola, fresh off her school record round in on the third day of the Rio Verde Invite.  Nekola had five birdies on the day, but also had to rally from a rough stretch of play.  She matched Henningsson with a 3-over par 75. 
 
Alexa Wingnean also took the course for USD.  She finished tied for 54
th with a score of 80, good for an 8-over par. 
 
USD is in solid position in the team race, finishing the day at 7-over par as a team, good for fifth place.  The Coyotes are within striking distance of most of the teams in front of them, sitting just three strokes shy of third place and just five strokes shy of second. 
 
California Baptist leads the team race with a score of 7-under par.  UNC-Greensboro's Ava Romfo shot a 67 and leads the individual race by one stroke.
