Coyotes Finish Eleventh at Chambers Bay

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash.— The South Dakota golf team wrapped up the SU Invite at Chambers Bay today, finishing the event in eleventh place out of eighteen teams.  The Coyotes finished with a team score of 876, good for a 24-over par mark.

USD's top finisher in both round three and the tournament overall was Joe Rohlwing.  The freshman put up an even-par round of 71 today, including two birdies and no holes worse than a bogey.  He finished the event with a 4-over par score of 217 over the three rounds, good for a tie for 35th place.

Logan Hamak was South Dakota's second best-finisher in round three and was the team's second-best finisher overall.  Hamak rebounded from a tough round two by posting a 2-over par 73 today, in a round that featured three birdies.  His total score of 220 for the event saw him finish at 7-over par, good for a tie for 51st place.  Coming in a stroke behind Hamak was Cole Witherow.  The freshman knocked in three birdies while posting a 4-over par 75 today.  That saw him finish tied for 55th with an 8-over par 221 overall.

Nick LaMotte posted a 5-over par 76 today which saw him finish at 14-over par overall for the event with a score of 227, good for a tie for 81st place.  LaMotte had the Coyotes' biggest highlight of the tournament when he knocked in a hole-in-one yesterday, the first of his golf career at any level.

The usually sure-handed Max Schmidtke struggled today, posting a 12-over par 83.  That saw him finish 15-over par overall with a score of 228, good for a tie for 86th place.  Playing as an individual, Ryan Neff posted a solid 2-over par round of 73 today that featured three birdies.  Neff finished the tournament at 11-over par overall with a score of 224, good for a tie for 70th place.

Oregon State won the event with a 25-under par mark.  The Beavers' Jackson Lake hung on to win the individual title by one stroke over Idaho's Johannes Hounsgaard.  The event was hosted by Seattle University at Chambers Bay, a course that has hosted several major events including the 2015 US Open.

South Dakota will next hit the links on Saturday, April 20th at the Fighting Illini Spring Invitational in Champaign, Illinois.  It is their final tune-up before the Summit League Championships at the end of April.  Follow @SDCoyotesMGolf on Twitter/X for up-to-date USD men's golf news and updates.
