MAYETTA, Kan.— The South Dakota women's golf team moved up a spot to fifth after round two of the Summit League Women's Golf Championship today. The tournament has one more round, which is scheduled to tee off tomorrow morning.
On a day where windy conditions led to higher scores across the board, the Coyote freshmen led the way. Freshman
Ava Schroeder's 4-over par score of 76 was not just the top USD score on the day, but the fifth lowest score turned in by any player in the tournament today. Her round featured two birdies and nothing worse than a bogey. She sits in 20
th place overall with a total score of 12-over par 156.
Lara Gehring, another freshman, was just one stroke behind Schroeder with a 5-over par 77. Her score was tied for the sixth lowest score of any competitor on the day. Like Schroeder, Gehring knocked in two birdies and did not have a hold worse than a bogey. Her two-day score of 11-over par 155 is the top USD performance so far and sees her tied for 17
th place.
Yet another freshman,
Ella Greenberg, was next for South Dakota. She shot a 10-over par 82, also with two birdies. Her two-round score of 157 sees her sitting at 13-over par and in a tie for 21
st place. Sophomore
Emma Henningsson shot a 12-over par 84 on the day, giving her a two-day score of 14-over par 158. She is tied for 24
th place.
Catie Nekola shot an 16-over par 88, giving her a two-day score of 19-over par 163. She is currently tied for 37
th place.
USD's team score of 319 gave them a two-day score of 621 (45-over par) and saw them pass Omaha for fifth place. The Coyotes are one spot, and six strokes, behind SDSU with an Interstate Series point on the line. As the fifth-place team, South Dakota will tee off round two between 8:50am and 9:30am tomorrow.
Defending champion Denver has a commanding lead in the team race. In the individual race, Avery Blake of Oral Roberts, Emma Bryant of Denver and Anna Zanusso of Denver are tied atop the leaderboard.
