ELK HORN Neb.— The South Dakota women's golf team improved two spots to finish fifth out of ten teams today at the "Stampede at the Creek" in Elk Horn, Nebraska.
Emma Henningsson put up the day's third lowest score on the course to finish the event in the top ten.
Henningsson scored a 1-under par 71 today, one of only three golfers to finish below par on the day. Her round featured four birdies and nothing worse than a bogey. Her final score of 12-over par 228 over three rounds saw her finished tied for 10
th place overall in the event, a 16-spot improvement over where she stood after play ended yesterday.
Catie Nekola turned in a 4-over par 76 today to finish one stroke behind Henningsson overall with a 13-over par 229. She finished tied for 13
th.
Ella Greenberg was next on the ledger for USD. She scored a 5-over par 77 for the third consecutive round, finishing with a 15-over 231 overall which was good for a tie for 18
th place. Greenberg only had one hole worse than a bogey for the entire 3-round event.
Lara Gehring finished the tournament tied for 23
rd after matching Greenberg's 5-over par 77 on the day. Gehring knocked in three birdies today after going without a birdie throughout the first two rounds. Her total score was 233, 17-over par.
Ava Schroeder had an 8-over par 80 today, giving her a total score of 25-over par 241 which saw her finish tied for 42
nd.
Alexa Wingnean shot her best round of the tournament with a 7-over par 79. She finished tied for 45
th with an overall score of 27-over par 243.
Avery O'Donnell competed as an individual for South Dakota. She shot a 10-over par 82 today to bring her total to 246, or 30-over par. She finished tied for 57
th.
The Coyotes finished with a team score of 56-over par 920, after posting their best team round score of the tournament with a 13-over par 301. They moved up two spots from seventh to fifth with their showing today, passing Creighton and Omaha in the process. North Dakota State held off St. Thomas for the team title, winning by 3 strokes. St. Thomas' Isabelle Lynch won the individual title by one stroke over her teammate Kathryn VanArragon. The pair posted the two of the three below par rounds of the day (the other was by USD's
Emma Henningsson). The Stampede at the Creek, hosted by Omaha, uses a unique play-six, score-four format.
South Dakota's will next hit the links at the Summit League Championships Sunday, April 21
st through Tuesday, April 23
