Coyotes fall triathlon schedule released

VERMILLION, S.D.—Trips to the Black Hills, the Ozarks and Florida highlight the Coyotes' triathlon schedule for the fall of 2024 announced today by head coach Kyle Joplin.

South Dakota opens the triathlon season in-state with the Southern Hill Collegiate Cup held on Aug. 31 at the Angostura Recreation Area in the Black Hills, just south of Hot Springs. The super sprint triathlon event consists of a 400-meter swim, a 10-kilometer bike and a 2,500-meter run.

After the super sprint intro in August, the Coyotes resume the collegiate distances of a sprint triathlon for the remainder of the season. The sprint triathlon consists of a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride and a 5,000-meter run.

The Coyotes next travel to the Prairie State Collegiate Cup in Clinton, Illinois. The NCAA wave takes off at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 21 at Clinton Lake State Recreation Area.

Those races serve as preparation for the West Regional Championship held Oct. 12 in Springfield, Missouri. Held in conjunction with the Heartland Triathlon Cup, the race takes place in Fellows Lake within the Ozarks. The Coyotes will look to qualify through to nationals from the regional meet.

The USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championships will take place at a new location this fall. The championship race is scheduled for Nov. 9 at Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont, Florida. The venue has regularly hosted spring triathlon races that the Coyotes have competed at.
