Recapping the Coyotes trip to Italy

08.27.2024

VERMILLION, S.D. — Earlier this month, the South Dakota men's basketball team completed its 11-day tour of Italy. In addition to some sightseeing, the Coyotes faced off against the Italian Select, Pro Camp (Italy) and Bassano del Grappa.

In addition to the team's practice schedule and contests in Italy, the Yotes visited Rome, Florence, Venice and Lake Como. Some of the notable stops the team made included the Colosseum, Vatican City, Sistine Chapel, the Duomo di Milano and a private cruise on Lake Como.

On the team's first day in Rome, the Coyotes toured central Rome including a guided tour of the main squares and the Colosseum.

The Yotes continued the sight seeing in the morning of day two, which started with a quick bus trip for a guided tour at the Vatican Museum. Later in the evening, the team hit the hardwood for their only practice day in Rome at the Stella Azzurra Sport Complex.

Prior to USD's first game of the trip, the team enjoyed a guided tour at the Accademia Gallery in the morning of the fourth day of the trip before taking the floor against the Italian Select squad in the evening. Following the team's second contest of the trip against Pro Camp on day six, the Yotes enjoyed a day at the lake with a cruise around Lake Como.

Day eight saw the Coyotes on a guided tour around Verona, which included a visit to Romeo and Juliet's house. South Dakota faced off against its third and final opponent in the evening against Bassano del Grappa. The Yotes capped off the trip with a tour through Venice on day nine, before heading back to the states on day 10.

The NCAA allows teams to participate in foreign tours once every four years, which includes an extra 10 days of practice time.
