02.15.2025

TYSON INVITATIONAL

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Action on the track saw the Coyotes take home a couple of new spots in the record books Saturday at the Tyson Invitational.

It started in the women's 800-meters, where Berkeley Engelland ran the second fastest indoor women's 800-meters in school history with a time of 2:09.4 to place third in the event. It is the top time in the Summit League this season.

Engelland's historic day was not done. To wrap up the women's track events, the South Dakota 4x400-relay team of Averi Schmeichel, Ellie Thomas, Sara Reifenrath, and Engelland ran a 3:42.73. While the time placed the Coyotes 17th in a loaded field of competitors, it was the second fastest time in school history and the top time in the Summit League this winter.

Another Coyote freshman had a strong showing alongside Engelland. Thomas, who ran on the 4x400 squad, ran a personal best 2:13.39 in the 800-meters.

In women's field events Saturday, Danii Anglin tied for fourth in the women's high jump at 5-7. In the women's pole vault, Kailee Swart tied a personal best at 13-5. In men's field events, Carsen Staehr took 11th in the triple jump at 47-2 ½.

In the Invitational section of the women's pole vault, Anna Willis cleared 13-11, as did Gen Hirata, competing unattached this winter.

SDSU CLASSIC

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Sprints and jumps were the name of the game Saturday for the Coyotes at the SDSU Classic in Brookings.

Sophie Amin competed in both the 60-meters and 60-meter hurdles Saturday. In the prelims of the hurdle competition, Amin ran 8.69 seconds for second. She also ran 7.88 in the qualifying round of the 60-meters. Amin improved on her time in the finals of the 60-hurdles, running 8.56 seconds for second place.

The Coyotes also sprinkled in a pair of top finishes in the mile. Jade Ecoffey (4:55.6) and Alexis Pagel (4:55.98) took second and third respectively in the women's mile.

In the men's 400, Tommy Nikkel placed sixth in a time of 48.88, which is just outside the Coyote Top 10 in the event and is 12th in the Summit League. Nikkel also ran the anchor leg of the men's 4x400 relay team of Evan Janzen, Henry Grayson, Caden Denker, and Nikkel that finished in 3:16.6 for fourth.

Two Coyote women placed in the women's triple jump, as Renee Brummels (7th) and Mae Siegel (8th) jumped 36-3 and 35-11 ¼ respectively.

The Coyotes are back in action Friday at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings for the SDSU Last Chance. It is the final meet for the Coyotes before the Summit League Championships, set to be ran in Brookings at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on Feb. 28 and March 1.
