SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- South Dakota men s and women s swimming and diving team had eight members named to the Academic All-Summit League team announced Wednesday by the league office.

The women s team placed five on the 18-member squad while the men s team had three selections from the 17-member team. Senior Christina Spomer is honored for the third time in her career while two-time honorees include Sara Mayer, Skyler Leverenz, Emily Kahn, Grace Schultz and Matthew Sorbe.

First time honors went to Parker Sonnabend and Jack Berdahl. 

A brief look at the eight award winners:
Spomer, from Omaha, Nebraska, carries a 4.00 grade point average as an elementary special education major. The senior was named Scholar of the Championships was a member of a title-winning 200 free relay. Also posted a pair of top 12 finishes in individual races. 

Kahn, from Denver, Colorado, won three Summit League titles including successfully defending her 100 free title. Senior earned All-Summit League honors in six of her seven events. The career 11 time Summit League champion and 25 time All-Summit League honoree owns a 3.84 GPA as a sustainability major. 

Mayer, from Wausau, Wisconsin, was a member of the title winning 200 free relay while also earning All-Summit League honors as a member of the 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. Graduated in December with a degree in medical biology and 3.77 GPA. 

Leverenz, a Lakeville, Minnesota native, earned All-Summit League honors as a member of a runner-up 800 free relay. Placed eighth in the 200 free, while swimming in the prelims of the 50 free and 100 free at the league championships. The 4.0 student is a communication studies major.

Schultz, from Merrill, Wisconsin, earned All-Summit League honors with a runner-up finish in the 200 back while also finishing fourth in the 100 back where she set the school record. Was a member of a championship 400 free relay quartet and runner-up 400 medley relay. Carries a 4.0 GPA as a Marketing major. 

Sorbe, from Brookings, South Dakota, swam to six top 12 finishes at the Summit League Championships while earning All-Summit League honors as a member of third-place 800 free relay and 200 free relay. He placed sixth in the 500 free, seventh in the 200 free and 12th in the 100 free. He carries a 4.0 GPA as a nursing major.

Sonnabend, a graduate student from Brillion, Wisconsin, had a trio of top nine finishes at the Summit League Championships where he placed seventh in the 200 IM, seventh in the 100 breast and ninth in the 200 breast. He had a 3.76 undergraduate GPA while earning a physical education degree. 

Berdahl, a senior from Littleton, Colorado, was a member of the Summit League title winning 400 medley relay while also swimming on a runner-up 200 medley relay. Earned All-Summit League honors with a second place finish in the 100 breast and also placed sixth in the 200 breast. The economics major carries a 3.72 GPA.
