South Dakota picks up two weekly conference honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After starting the outdoor season in Texas last weekend, Averi Schmeichel and Lydia Knapp helped the Coyotes sweep the women's Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week awards.
 
Knapp earned her third Kwik Star Summit League Peak Performer of the Week honor of her career for her performance at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. Knapp took third in both of her sections of the hammer throw and discus over the weekend.
 
Knapp's performance in the hammer throw was a personal best 208-5 (63.52m) to take third. She then placed third in the discus with a mark of 172-2 (52.48m). Both marks lead the Summit League by just over 25 feet.
 
Schmeichel won her first Kwik Star Summit League Women's Peak Performer of the Week award for her performance at the Texas Relays over the weekend. Schmeichel ran a 13.8-second 100-meter hurdles, 59.64-second 400-meter hurdles, and was a part of the 4x400 that ran 3:47.19. She was the top Summit league performer at the Texas Relays in the 100 hurdles and took 18th in the prelims. She placed 21st in the 400-hurdles and the 4x400 relay won their heat.
 
Schmeichel currently ranks first in the Summit League in the 400-hurdles and the 4x400 relay team ranks first in the conference as well. Her 100-hurdles time is second in the Summit League this spring.
 
The Coyotes are at home for the USD Early Bird this weekend.
