SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – For the first time this season, South Dakota track and field has earned multiple Kwik Star Summit League Track and Field Peak Performer of the Week honors in a week as
Berkeley Engelland,
Anna Willis, and
Landon Olson claimed awards this week.
Â
Berkeley Engelland claimed her first career Summit League weekly honor after three strong races at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational Friday and Saturday to earn women's track honors for the week. Engelland ran personal bests in both the 400-meters and 800-meters over the weekend.
Â
The highlight of the weekend for Engelland was her 800-meter run Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. She ran 2:08.12 for second place at the meet and second best time in USD Indoor Top 10 list in the event. Her personal best is the top time in the Summit League and ranks 83
rd in the NCAA. Her 400 time of 56.14 was good for fourth at the meet and is the ninth Summit League this season. She also ran on the USD 4x400 squad that clocked 3:52.09 Saturday.
Â
Anna Willis has her second indoor weekly field honor of the season, third of her career, after the best indoor performance of her career Friday afternoon in Lincoln. Willis placed third at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational with an indoor best height of 14-8 ¼ (4.48m). That height places her third in Indoor USD history, second in the Summit League this season, and seventh in the NCAA this winter. This is also South Dakota's fourth straight women's field weekly honor of this season, with Mülla and Willis alternating honors during this stretch.
Â
Landon Olson has his first weekly field honor of the season and third of his career after clearing 7-0 in the high jump for the first time this season in Saturday's competition at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. Olson placed second place with a clearance of 7-1 (2.16m) at the meet. That height is second in the Summit League and 21
st in the NCAA this winter. He also competed in the long jump, making the final with a season's best 21-11 ¾ (6.70m), but didn't jump in the final and placed eighth at the meet. He is 17
th in the Summit League so far this season in the long jump.
Â
South Dakota is sending athletes to two different meets over the weekend, competing at the Tyson Invitational and the SDSU Indoor Classic Friday and Saturday.
