Nick Rounds after record breaking 50 free in conference finals

Records Fall as Yotes Stack the Podium on day two

Iowa City, Iowa — The Yotes delivered a statement performance from prelims to finals, stacking championship heats with qualifiers and claiming multiple podium finishes. The night was highlighted by a NCAA-qualifying performance from Nick Rounds
 
The morning started with the women's 500 free where four Yotes made the Championship finals. Emily DiProspero, Camilla Brogger-Andersen, Tatum O'Shea, and Ashley Koenig all swam top eight times to move to the night session. On the men's side, the duo of Alex Parkinson and Matthew Sorbe move to the Championship finals in the 500 free. 
 
Next was the 200 IM where Taylor Buhr, Gabbie Ahrendt, Brock Russell, and Joaquin Contreras-Fallico swam top eight times for the chance at a medal later in the day. 
 
The last preliminary event was the 50 free. Henley Hatzung and Anna Balfanz made the cut for the women's team, while Nick Rounds and James Schreiber represent USD for the men. 
 
The afternoon consisted of the women's 1 mtr diving event where Mady Schmidt put together a top eight performance to move onto the finals when she finished in eighth place. 
 
Finals brought many medals for the Yotes starting with silver for DiProspero and bronze for Brogger-Andersen in the women's 500 free. Then on the men's side, Parkinson swam a 4:22.31 to take home the gold. 
 
Later in the 200 IM Buhr swam a personal best and school record 2:01.02 and got second place for the women's team. Russell then took silver for the men while Contreras-Fallico took third. 
 
Hatzung swam a 23.02 in the 50 free to take second place. Rounds had a historic swim in the 50 free as he finished in 19.15 to break the school record, the conference record, and punch his ticket to the NCAA Championship Meet. He is the first swimmer in school history to qualify. 
 
The meet concluded with a set of relays where the women's team of Balfanz, Hatzung, Ahrendt, and Carson White earned silver while the men's team of Rounds, Schreiber, Sorbe, and Jordan Hogue won the 200 free relay and set a new school record at 1:18.55.
